On a blood thinner, the details matter

If you're hurt in a fall or a crash, a blood thinner changes how you need to be treated. But responders can only act on what they know. NIH MedlinePlus advises people taking warfarin:

“Ask about wearing a medical alert bracelet or necklace that says you are taking warfarin.”

What the NIH wants you to know

  • Tell all of your providers that you are taking warfarin.
  • Look for bleeding from the gums, nosebleeds, blood in your urine or dark stool.
  • Dark red or black bruises may appear.
  • Contact your provider after a serious fall, or if you hit your head.

Does Hero Link work for AFib, heart failure, stents and pacemakers?

Yes. Your profile shows whatever you add, so it works for any heart condition. Use the pinned alert for the one thing responders should know first, like a blood thinner.

Does it monitor my heart?

No. Hero Link shows the information you enter. It doesn't track your heart rate or rhythm or connect to other devices.

Can I list my pacemaker or ICD?

Yes. With Hero Link® PRO you can list devices and implants, medications and your cardiologist. You can also mention them in your free pinned alert.

How will someone helping me know I take a blood thinner?

Put it in your pinned alert, which is free and shows at the top of your profile. With PRO you can also list the exact medication and dose.

Do responders need an app?

No. Any NFC-enabled smartphone can tap the bracelet to open the profile, with no app or account. See which phones work.

Will first responders know to look for my Hero Link?

Not always, and we want to be upfront about that. NFC medical IDs are still new to many first responders and hospitals, so we can't promise that every responder will notice or tap your Hero Link. To give yourself the best chance:

  • Keep a Hero Link wallet card behind your driver's license, where people usually look for ID.
  • Tell family, caregivers and coworkers that you wear or carry Hero Link.
  • Set a clear pinned alert, so the most important thing shows first.
  • Share our responder training with your local agencies.
Is the medical information private?

Profiles are HIPAA compliant and encrypted, and you decide what's on them. If a bracelet is lost, you can freeze it anytime from your account.

Ready to wear your heart info?

Built by current and former first responders and medical professionals.

Hero Link® shows the information you choose to add. It doesn't monitor your heart or replace advice from your doctor or cardiologist.
